We are recruiting for a Midwife to work in the new Maternal Mental Health Service in Northamptonshire and alongside the existing specialist perinatal mental health provision. The role will be split between the MMHT (0.6 WTE and supporting the Trust PMH Midwife 0.4 WTE) which will give the successful candidate the chance to make key relationships at both sites. The role being split into two locations also offering up the chance of more autonomy to make this a flourishing service for both trusts. Training will be given in and the role will consist of core office hours. 

Main duties of the job

Maternal Mental Health Element

You will have a passion or interest for Maternal Mental Health and be committed to raising the profile within the Maternity and Obstetric Services. This role is crucial in developing and maintaining high standards of mental health care for women. The role will include close working with qualified clinical psychologists and the psychology team including co-facilitation of group interventions as well as psychologically informed treatment planning.

You will have a high level of relevant Midwifery skills, which you will use to develop and manage care for women with moderate to severe mental health needs arising from their maternity experience. This may include tokophobia, birth trauma and perinatal loss. You will work as part of a small team including clinical psychology, psychological therapy and peer support.

You will be involved in development of trauma informed care approaches and ensuring development of a seamless pathway between maternity and other services including Improving Access to Psychological Therapy (IAPT), Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service (SPMHS), Primary Care Network teams (PCN) and universal and third sector services.

Perinatal Mental Health Element

You will work alongside the existing perinatal Mental Health Midwife to develop & provide individualised care for women at risk of or experiencing moderate to severe mental health conditions during pregnancy and after delivery.

Qualifications / Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria

  • Registered Midwife
  • Level 3 Safeguarding Children Training
  • Band 6 Registered Midwife with Substantial experience at this level
  • Ability to undertake audit and analyse results
  • Evidence of self-development
  • Desirable criteria

  • Keen Interest in maternal and infant mental health, experience with working with perinatal loss, fear of childbirth or birth related trauma
  • Understanding and knowledge of current issues in midwifery and NHS

    If you need to have a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check, as a requirement of the role, you will be required to repay the cost of obtaining a DBS check (£50) and this amount will be reclaimed from your first salary. From 1st February 2019 all new starters to the Trust are required to join the DBS update service as per Trust DBS Re-checking Policy which has an annual cost of £13. New employees who do not join the update service will be required to pay £50 for a new DBS check in 3 years time.

    Please note that news starters with KGH are subject to a six month probationary period.
