The Job

Team Charter:
The NIO Vehicle Application SW Team is responsible for defining Chassis/Power/Body domains functions and in-house development and ensuring system safety of these function across NIO’s mass-produced fleet of Luxury, Intelligent, Autonomous Vehicles.

About the Role:
NIO is seeking a System Safety Engineer for Chassis control system ( Braking and steering system, especially redundant braking/steering system). Reporting to the director of VAS, you will play key role to develop NIO’s safety critical System to support further Autonomous Driving landing across NIO’s fleet of vehicles worldwide.

In this role, you will work closely with cross-functional teams across NIO. You will advise all internal stakeholders and leadership to ensure Safety and Reliability compliance with all applicable automotive industry safety standards, regulations, guidelines, best practices, and due-care requirements, including Functional safety, SOTIF.

This position can be based in Oxford, UK or Shanghai, CN.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver vehicle, system, and sub-system level safety goals
  • Lead creation and review of safety requirements
  • Compile and deliver list of required evidence to develop NIO’s safety case in your area of expertise and responsibility
  • Conduct internal compliance reviews and efforts to validate NIO’s safety case by assessing evidence
  • Deliver successful completion of NIO’s safety case
  • Ensure safety assurance by continuously assessing on-going compliance
  • Provide safety assurance and compliance expertise and knowledge
  • Conduct safety-critical analyses and reviews of various safety standards, and Hazard and Risk Analysis (HARA) work products, e.g., ISO-26262, ISO-21448, UL 4600, FMEA, STPA, FTA, etc.
  • When necessary, lead efforts to start or perform appropriate FMEA/FTA activities by working cross-functionally across NIO
  • Perform appropriate safety-critical audits, reviews, and compliance assessment
  • Document findings, recommend improvements, discuss with related teams to ensure improvement and compliance
  • Liaise with and provide status updates to stakeholders and leadership
  • Ensure consistency and compliance with emerging regulatory requirements, guidelines, and best practices
  • Requirements:

  • Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Systems, Structural, and others), or related technical field
  • 5-10 years of system safety engineering experience in automotive Chassis control system ( Braking and steering system, especially redundant braking/steering system) preferably at OEM, Tier 1 supplier, or product certification organization
  • Automotive industry (or safety-critical industry) system safety/reliability development knowledge and experience
  • In-depth understanding of Functional Safety, SOTIF, and other automotive safety standards .
  • In-depth system knowledge and expert level expertise and experience on Braking or Steering system, especially redundant braking/steering system
  • Experience extracting safety requirements from braking/steering related safety standards and regulation
  • Hands on experiences applying relevant safety standards and safety analysis methods (HAZOP, FMEA, FTA, FMEDA and STPA) in mass-product development and engineering
  • Systems engineering fundamentals, especially how it relates to hardware, software, system and sub-system level design and engineering
  • System safety/Reliability investigation and analysis related experience in Vehicle safety, ADAS and ADS technologies is desired
  • Relevant certification (e.g., Functional Safety or others), training and licenses are desired
