An excellent opportunity has arisen for a full time Band 3 Senior Health Care Assistant to work in the Southampton Dermatology Centre based at the Royal South Hants Hospital. The Southampton Dermatology Centre operates from 07.00 – 18.00 Monday to Friday, with some optional out of hours/ Saturday working. You will be assisting in the management of the smooth running of clinics within the Dermatology Department and Medical Outpatients Department and assisting the clinicians in our Day Case surgical rooms.

Main duties of the job

  • To work in a team of nursing staff and clinicians, ensuring high standards of care are developed and maintained within that team.

  • To give and receive regular reports on the progress of patients, immediately acting on any changes in the patients’ condition, and reporting them to the relevant health care professional.

  • To assist consultant surgeons in the day case surgery operating rooms

  • To facilitate the smooth running of various clinics and to chaperone patients when necessary.

  • To provide assistance to clinicians during clinics, taking photographs, observations, helping patients with undressing/dressing.

    The Dermatology Department offers various services and clinics such as UVL treatment, phototesting, Botox, patch, 2 week skin cancer pathway, vulval clinics. Many of our clinics are nurse led such acne, topical treatments, allergy patch testing, mole mapping and wound clinics.

    The post holder will be responsible for assisting in some of these clinics and to chaperone patients. You will also run the admission and recovery area when there are Day Case surgical patients, take observations and providing aftercare information. You will also have the opportunity to provide assistance to the Dermatology Surgeons in the operating rooms.

    The post holder will also be responsible for providing care and advice to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients and relatives. We also look after a small number of clinics for Medical Outpatients such as TB, Diabetes and Gastro and you will be assisting clinicians with observations, venesection and to facilitate the smooth running of these clinics.

    We are looking to recruit a Health Care Support worker who has a keen interest in working in the speciality of Dermatology. Previous experience is desirable however not essential as all the training required will provided.

    The post holder will work with the wider Dermatology team to support care and intervention. This post will include working in the admission and recovery areas and in the Medical Outpatient Department.
