We have an exciting opportunity for fellowship at West Road MedicalCentre. This fellowship is open to any GP within their first 12 months aftergaining their CCT. The GP Fellow willbenefit from the experience of other GP Fellows who worked with us oninteresting projects (working with homeless patients, mental health and women’shealth) and who are now embedded in our supportive team.

The successful applicant will have one session per week paid protectedtime (pro rata) for the fellowship. Weare keen to co-design this based on interest area and population need. Examples of areas of focus might be bettermeeting the needs of young people within general practice, working with frailhousebound elderly and/ or care home patients; diabetes management possibly to focus on the differing needs within our population taking intoaccount wider determinants; making care more in tune, integrated and accessiblefor patients where ethnicity and other cultural traditions might be healthdeterminants, specifically Pakistani Bengali and Muslim traditions. These suggestions are illustrative, we wouldwelcome other ideas.

There is opportunity to contribute and lead on areas of service designand clinical pathways. We will link the Fellow with peer group support andmentoring programmes and offer a GP mentor for professional development.

Main duties of the job

We have built a supportive structure around the GPs in the team thatincludes Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Social Prescribers, Pharmacy Technician,Health and Wellbeing Coach, Practice Nurses, Health Care Apprentices, CareCoordinators and administrators. We haveexcellent links with the voluntary sector and we have link workers for childrenand young people’s mental health, patients with learning disabilities, adultmental health and those with long term conditions. The practice boundaryincludes areas with high levels of health inequalities and health need andprovides opportunity for primary care to have a high impact which makes a veryrewarding environment for our team and GPs.
