Job summary

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to upskill the range of professionals, as well as the wider community, to respond effectively to the needs of people who have drug and alcohol problems.

The post holder will provide training across the London Borough of Hounslow to health, social care and other professionals who work with people affected by substance use problems, ranging from GP to homeless services. They will also have a community involvement role and will deliver training and awareness-raising campaigns to people and groups living or working in Hounslow. This can include local firms, gyms and bus depots, faith groups or community organisations.

The post holder will have good understanding of substance use and treatment. They will have excellent verbal and written communication skills and able to tailor their message to different and diverse audiences. This is a great development opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic individual who enjoys working with a substance misuse team, but is also self-motivated, able to work on their own and manage own workload and schedule.

Main duties of the job

This post will be based with the team of ARC Hounslow, a large multi-disciplinary drug and alcohol service. However, the post holder will work across the LB of Hounslow to raise awareness of and deliver training on drug and alcohol harm, treatment and recovery. It is aimed at the wide range of stakeholders in the community, including clinicians and other health social care professionals, as well as the wider community.

The project is a response to the recommendations of the report by Dame Carole Black, which highlight the need for a suitably trained workforce, if we are to achieve sufficient quality and capacity of treatment. It is based on the rationale that this cannot take place in isolation in specialist substance use services only, but should also include other health and social care professionals who work with people affected by substance use problems. The post will upskill and support health and social care providers across the borough and enable them to deliver high quality and safe care to patients and improving the patient experience of local health services .
