Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Health Visitor to cover a Maternity Leave post and to develop a specialist HV role in the community as part of a Surrey-wide service to improve access to health for children and families who are experiencing homelessness, as well as asylum seekers and refugees and Gypsy, Romany and Traveller communities in the county. All three groups face multiple barriers to healthcare.

The Inclusion Health Team is a funded service now approaching its fifth year and has produced a number of successful and ongoing developments, with more planned for 2023. The successful applicant will support the team lead in the delivery of community support to vulnerable families via telephone, virtual and face to face contacts, where required.

Main duties of the job

The role will involve working as part of the Children and Family Health Inclusion Health Team, across Surrey, delivering the Healthy Child Programme through targeted outreach and providing a trauma-informed approach. Previous experience working with these disadvantaged client groups would be advantageous but training, including cultural awareness, will be offered. Experience with line managing, delivering community projects and public speaking, including public health messaging and delivery would be advantageous, as well as safeguarding supervision experience but training and development opportunities will be offered.

This exciting initiative involves targeted, assertive outreach to communities experiencing multiple barriers to healthcare and aims to reduce both health inequalities and poor health outcomes.

The post offers development opportunities and clinical responsibilities for an experienced Specialist Public Health Nurse (registered Health Visitor) while covering the Maternity Leave for a current member of the team. It is an exciting opportunity to try a new role and develop new skills as part of a dynamic and innovative team, while making a real difference to marginalised and vulnerable families, who experience multiple barriers to routine health care. It is rewarding and interesting work, with a supportive and caring team.

Regular psychological and emotional support is offered to the team, as well as relevant training and peer support.
