County Durham and Darlington NHS FoundationTrust (CDDFT) are creating a Centralised Endoscopy Decontamination Department atDarlington Memorial Hospital, dedicated to the cleaning, packaging andpreparation of flexible Endoscopes for patient use across the whole Trust. Thisis an exciting opportunity to join a newly established team, providing acritical service supporting clinical activities

Main duties of the job

You will be a vital member of a close team working in a clinicalenvironment, delivering a professional service to the Trust. You will beresponsible for ensuring that all Endoscopes are cleaned and packaged to thecorrect high standards for patients. Main duties & responsibilities

– Perform leakage tests on all scopes

– Pre-clean and decontaminate flexible scopes using theautomated washer disinfectors

– Complete scanning and paperwork as part of the trackingsystem for each scope

– Inspect scopes and equipment for faults and problems

– Prioritise scopes to ensure user requirements and thedaily schedule are met

– Carry out all daily tests and housekeepingduties

Job responsibilities

You will be working to provide a safe and effective decontaminationservice, directly supporting the Trust’s Endoscopy services. You will:

– Carry out all daily tests and housekeeping duties on the automatedwasher disinfectors and associated decontamination equipment

– Help to maintain all work areas in a clean and tidy condition,and free from hazards

– Assist with the collection and delivery of scopes to andfrom the service users

– Conduct equipment scanning at all stages of the processfor track and traceability of scopes and probes

– Perform leakage tests on all scopes

– Pre-clean all scopes, brushing them through as perguidelines

– Decontaminate flexible scopes using the automated washerdisinfectors

– Complete all the necessary paperwork as part of thequality tracking system for each scope

– Prepare scopes for return to all areas and specialities,and return scopes as per the daily schedule

– Inform Clinical Engineering colleagues of any repairs andcomplete any associated paperwork required

– Pack damaged scopes securely for Clinical Engineering tocollect from the department

– Inspect and monitor scopes and decontamination equipmentfor problems

– Report and troubleshoot any problems with equipment to theshift supervisor

– Prioritise daily workload and process scopes in accordancewith scheduled lists

– Liaise with Endoscopy Department colleagues wherenecessary, to clarify list information and help avoid delays to clinical areasand patients

– Prioritise and disinfect scopes to ensure usersrequirements are met, in line with the agreed service level agreements and thedaily requirement schedule

– Programme washer disinfectors to self-disinfect as perdepartment policy

– Monitor the operation of automated washer disinfectors, changingdetergents as required and record batch numbers in the control logs

– In the event of an emergency endoscopy procedure beingcarried out, ensure plans are in place to “Fast Track” the scope requiredthrough the decontamination cycle

– Put all stock away safely and securely

– Maintain an awareness of the value of endoscopes andequipment

– Dispose of all waste in the appropriate manner
