An opportunity has arisen for an IT Installation Engineer to work in conjunction with the existing support teams. 

The purpose of this post is to undertake duties relating to the installation of IT Equipment from Service Requests that are allocated through the Service Management Toolset. This will require the moving and setting up of IT equipment, accurately recording this information and liaising with varying levels of staff of both a clinical and non-clinical background. 

 The post holder will be expected to provide a PC desktop/laptop replacement service and carry out desktop installations. There will also be a requirement to recover redundant equipment back to site for decommissioning. 

These roles sit within the Central and Northern Campus IT Support Teams. 

Main duties of the job

To complete service requests which include the installation of desktop hardware and software to agreed and documented standards

To provide a level of triage for installations, requests in order to diagnose and resolve in line with agreed targets and timeframes

Perform detailed installations and configurations of desktops, laptops, software & related hardware

Ability to escalate service requests as required to other members of the Business Services team. To perform site surveys to establish and confirm requirements for new installation

Be responsible for managing own workload and use initiative to refer to Implementation Co-ordinator where appropriate

To pro-actively monitor the progress of service requests to ensure that resolver groups are responding.

To interpret the impact of the service request in order to establish the correct priority.

To update the appropriate Configuration Management Systems with any change associated with a Service Request or Incident.

To use the Service Management Toolset (Cherwell) to record and resolve all service requests accurately and effectively

  • GCSE English and Mathematics Grade 7/A-4/C or equivalent qualifications/experience

  • ITIL Qualifications
  • Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician
  • CompTIA Network+
  • Experience

    Essential criteria

  • Significate experience of working in IT Support and IT Customer Services Environment including work placement as part of a period of study
  • Knowledge of desktop computer hardware / software gained through study or practical experience
  • Customer service and IT spport experience.
  • Desirable criteria

  • Experience of supporting and Installing Microsoft products
  • Relevant NHS/public sector experience
  • Special Skills/Aptitudes
