Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Viral Hepatitis Nurse to join our busy and expanding liver service and Sussex Viral Hepatitis Operational Delivery Network, on a one year fixed term contract .

The post holder will work alongside the existing Hepatology Nurses, Consultants and other members of the multidisciplinary team to provide excellent quality and holistic care to patients across Sussex. The role will contribute to the development and roll out of our nationally acclaimed, pioneering programme in Brighton and Sussex, which will significantly impact on the National and Public Health England Hepatitis C Elimination Strategy.

The role will be responsible for providing effective nurse led Hepatitis C assessment and treatment clinics in multiple locations; in acute trusts and in community settings across Sussex. The successful candidate will also provide Hepatitis C education, training, and focus on improving patient and clinical engagement in Hepatitis C case finding initiatives. The post holder will significantly contribute towards ensuring the Brighton and Sussex University Trust continues to achieve all the measures and targets in the relevant CQUIN.

This role would suit a nurse with hepatology, substance misuse and/or community experience. Teaching experience is desirable.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team and will contribute to the Sussex Network Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) “find and treat” strategy.

The main responsibility of this post is to provide effective nurse led clinics across multiple hospital and community locations e.g. substance misuse services, homeless shelters, GP surgeries. With appropriate support and training this will include assessment, education, counselling and support, organising relevant investigations, maintaining a caseload of patients undergoing treatment for viral hepatitis, and monitoring of patients for ongoing follow up care as indicated.

The post holder will mostly be working in West Sussex; however you will be required to cross cover for colleagues in Brighton and Hove, and at times may be asked to cover other locations in Sussex. The post holder will also attend and work within the Hepatology nurses main office in Brighton and Sussex University Hospital Trust at least once per fortnight
