An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Medical Devices Training Coordinator (MDTC) Band 6 following the retirement of the incumbent. The MDTC is responsible for proactive planning and management of a broad range of professional user training programmes for medical devices across the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust to enhance patient safety. This post is ideal for anyone considering a career change and will allow the successful candidate to develop their leadership skills, while leading and coordinating site based activities.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Degree in a scientific or healthcare related subject or, demonstrable equivalent knowledge
  • Excellent organisational & administrative skills
  • Experience of arranging & coordinating training programmes on a medium or large scale
  • Is process driven with ability to adapt their working approach to rapidly changing situations and demands as they occur
  • Excellent communication skills with staff and customers and be able to interpret and communicate highly detailed training information to staff at all levels from junior to senior management or consultant level

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring Trust compliance with CQC and MHRA requirements for medical devices training and record keeping
  • Day-to-day administration of the training records database (e-Quip)
  • Supporting Ward Managers, professional users and trainers by providing e-Quip training
  • Monitoring access to training and staff competency records
  • Managing staff lists, records and competencies on e-Quip
  • Liaising with medical device(s) suppliers and internal trainers to provide training for new equipment, loans and trial equipment
  • Ensuring the quality of the information held on e-Quip
  • Organising, promoting and coordinating teaching via classroom, virtual educational programs and all other media
  • Gathering and tracking data/information from each program
  • Liaising with the Medical Devices Safety Officer on medical device user error related incidents and reporting learning

The post-holder will engage with medical device suppliers to source resources, which will mostly consist of training days and materials to facilitate quality training for medical device users. The post-holder will use a Training Needs Analysis (TNA) electronic application to formulate statutory and bespoke KPIs on training, and training compliance at user, ward, and care group level, providing regular reports on the training needs and compliance of the Organisation to relevant areas within the Trust. He/she is responsible to act on those needs by liaising with Practice Educators and Clinical/Department Leads/Managers across the Trust, providing advice and assistance to arrange any necessary training to maintain Trust compliance and, for maintaining the centralised staff medical devices training and competency records

The post-holder will explore online and blended learning models for medical devices including general training on medical device safety and will liaise with technical and clinical staff to identify and share examples of best practise in the safe use and operation of medical devices, building this knowledge into learning material for current and future training.

The post-holder will liaise with the Medical Devices Safety Officer (MDSO) to investigate training needs following incidents and safety alerts involving medical devices and will work with the MDSO and Risk Management Lead to prevent or limit repetition of medical device related incidents.
