We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for an experienced Quality & Risk Manager to join the Governance Team at The Lister Hospital.

This pivotal role will see you working collaboratively across clinical and operational teams to support the hospital in achieving and maintaining excellence in quality governance, risk management, and regulatory compliance. You will play a central part in ensuring CQC readiness, supporting hospital accreditation processes, and leading key areas such as audit, incident management, and patient feedback (complaints and compliments).

As a senior member of the governance function, you will strengthen leadership and oversight across all aspects of quality and risk, helping to embed a culture of accountability, learning, and continuous improvement. Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery and continuous development of the Quality Governance Framework, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and regulatory standards
  • Maintain a consistent state of CQC inspection readiness, working collaboratively with corporate and local teams to ensure consistent governance standards, regulatory compliance, and shared learning across the organisation.
  • Manage the complaints and feedback process, ensuring all concerns are handled and responded to in a timely, professional, and compassionate manner.
  • Support compliance activities and contribute to achieving and maintaining hospital accreditations.
  • Provide oversight and coordination of the Quality Improvement (QI) Programme, promoting best practice and continuous improvement across all departments.
  • Facilitate effective communication between teams and governance committees, ensuring quality and risk information is clearly reported and that action plans are implemented and monitored.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive quality and risk reports to governance committees and senior leadership.
  • Coordinate and participate in mock inspections to ensure ongoing readiness for regulatory and accreditation reviews, providing assurance of compliance and quality standards.
  • Act as hospital policy controller, overseeing the development, review, approval, and implementation of local policies to ensure alignment with corporate governance requirements.
  • Identify, analyse, and report on recurring themes and trends from incidents, complaints, and audits, ensuring that learning and improvement are embedded across the organisation.
  • Manage the incident reporting process in line with the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF), coordinating Patient Safety Incident Investigations (PSIIs) and ensuring effective learning outcomes.
  • Maintain and oversee the Risk Register, ensuring entries are accurate, current, and reflective of emerging risks and organisational priorities.

Skills and Experience

•    A relevant governance qualification or equivalent professional experience within a healthcare setting.
•    Strong knowledge of quality governance frameworks, CQC standards, and UK healthcare legislation.
•    Proven experience in quality, risk, or governance management, ideally within an acute hospital environment.
•    Proficiency in using governance and reporting systems such as Datix, Meditech, and Microsoft Office applications (particularly Excel).
•    Excellent analytical and critical appraisal skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and provide clear, evidence-based insights.
•    Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage, advise, and support staff at all levels.
•    A proactive and solutions-focused approach, demonstrating sound judgment and attention to detail.
•    Skilled in organising and prioritising multiple projects, with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
•    Committed to continuous quality improvement and the promotion of a positive safety and learning culture.
•    Flexible, professional, and innovative in approach, with strong interpersonal and leadership qualities.
•    (Desirable) Experience in change management or project delivery within a healthcare governance or risk management context.
