My client, a Data Centre services specialist are currently recruiting for a Cabling Shift Engineer (Optic Fibre) on a permanent basis.
You will perform cable moves and all necessary changes to existing systems predominantly at a single site in London.

Shift details –
4 days on/4 days off, 12 hours’ night/day shift

What are we looking for?

  • Cabling engineers with experience with Optic Fibre cabling be able to install, terminate and test category 5 and category 6, UTP, STP coaxial, multicore voice and Belden x.21..
  • Engineers must have a background installation, preparation, splicing and testing of singlemode and multimode optic fibre
  • Duties & Responsibilities –

  • Perform cable moves and changes to existing systems as required
  • Test and label each installation, recording the test results for presentation to customers on completion as necessary and in line with Company standards
  • Identify and carefully recover redundant or abandoned cables in order to maximize the capacity in cable routes and risers
  • Take responsibility for day to day cable management within the risers and cable routes including the supervision of customers’ cabling contractors
  • Demonstrate knowledge and awareness of Health & Safety requirements and regulations relevant to the communications industry, whilst carrying out day to day tasks
  • Undertake any other duties that may reasonably be assigned from time to time
  • Engineers will be required to –

  • Have significant experience in fusion splicing
  • Have good experience in copper termination
  • Have good experience in cable management
  • Prior experience in cabling within the telecoms industry
  • Prior experience of testing and fault-finding on all cable types
  • Be responsible for testing and labelling all installations
  • Provide all relevant records and present findings to the customers according to company standards.
  • Educated at least to GCSE level
  • Be a team player, always willing to support colleagues and go the extra mile to meet customers’ expectations
  • Desirable –

  • Datacoms cabling part 1 (City & Guilds 3466-04) or BTec equivalent
  • Fibre Optic installation and testing (City & Guilds 3466-02 & 03) or BTEC equivalent
  • Health & Safety in the Work Place Working at HeightLifting & Handling
