Associate Analyst, Corporate Ratings – European Retail & Leisure – London

The Team / The Work:
You will report to the Lead Analysts of the industries we cover as part of a 20-analysts team led by the Analytical Manager. Our industries, Retail & Leisure in Europe, are primarily driven by fluctuating consumption patterns and they are significantly participated by private equity investors, all of which reflect in a very high proportion of high yield credits. The work pace is fast, driven by continuous credit events triggered by changes in operating performance, M&A transactions, dividend recapitalisations or refinancing exercises, which offer the candidate many opportunities to be exposed to the major credit events and transactions occurring in the international capital markets and to quickly learn the trade of international Corporate Finance.

The Impact
At S&P Global Ratings, your impact will be very significant and wide-ranging. As an expert in the Retail and Leisure industries and in all aspects of high yield credit analysis, you will meet the senior Management teams of the companies you will cover, together with the Lead Analyst, and you will be representing S&P Global Ratings in front of them. You will be leading the analytical efforts with these companies in any event-driven situation or debt financing transaction, coordinating a multidisciplinary team of S&P experts, presenting your independent analytical opinion and rating recommendation in front of a Rating Committee, and writing and publishing rating actions. You will also represent S&P Global Ratings’ analytical views in front of international investors in roundtables and through written reports.

What’s in it for you?
S&P Global Ratings offers you a very attractive career opportunity with the world’s most recognized independent Rating Agency. You will assume important responsibilities quickly and you will benefit from significant career opportunities as part of an organization that is growing fast, in tandem with the development of the bond market in Europe. You will become the S&P Global Ratings’ specialist in the industries you cover and an expert in the rating methodology that has become the market’s benchmark. You will have the opportunity to exchange with the senior Management teams of the major companies operating in your industries. You will communicate S&P’s independent credit opinions verbally and in written reports to international investors. You will work in a flat organization, alongside strong professionals with very diverse cultures and backgrounds, and in a collegial manner, while benefitting from continuing in-house training that will ensure you grow rapidly as a professional. Importantly, S&P Global Ratings supports social diversity, offers equal opportunities to all its employees, and strives to maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain the rating surveillance on a portfolio of up to 14 corporate credits in the European Retail & Leisure industries
  • Lead from start to finish in the analysis of new ratings, including analyzing ESG (Environment, Social & Governance) factors to the extent they affect credit quality
  • Lead meetings with the senior Management of the companies we rate, accompanied by a Lead Analyst, and deliver high levels of service excellence to all stakeholders operating in the capital markets
  • Write and publish rating reports on the companies we rate as well as sector commentaries and participate in investor outreach activities
  • Develop and maintain a high team spirit and contribute to a culture of constant learning, coaching and developmental feedback
  • What we’re looking for:

  • A team player with good time management skills and the ability to work in various tracks in parallel
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Any knowledge of the Retail and Leisure industries would be a plus, but is not a condition
