Dorset Healthcare Estates and Facilities Directorate are seeking to appoint a conscientious and self-motivated Water Service Engineer, to our Water Service Team based at our new office and workshop facilities in Wareham.

The Water Service Engineer will work alongside the Water Services Team Leader and Maintenance Worker, under the management of the Estates Officer Mechanical and Estates Officer Specialist Services (Compliance), focusing on the Trusts water services quality and statutory compliance.

The Water Services Engineer will be required to act as the Trust Competent Person Legionella, and Competent Person for one or more other disciplines. A programme of development training and mentoring is in place to assist with your appointment in these roles and giving you the opportunity to progress to more senior roles.

Main duties of the job

As a Water Service Engineer, you will deliver pre-planned maintenance and quality repair services to a variety of Trust premises which include Hospitals, Health Centre’s, Mental Health In-Patient Units and Administrative Buildings, across Dorset.

Also desirable, would be Gas Safe registration plus with experience in general healthcare engineering disciplines including ventilation, medical gas, heating and water services, and knowledge of current HTM standards HTM-04, ACOP L8, and HSG274.

The role will require manual work including but not limited to; safe isolation of water supplies, removal of redundant pipework, modifying non-compliant pipework and fittings, accessing roof spaces, removal and installation of TMVs, and all other remedial works associated with water services. Other duties include:

  • Delivery of scheduled PPM’s.
  • Updating of assets lists.
  • Completion of remedial works from legionella risk assessments and water sample results.
  • Undertake and/or supervise others in water sampling activities.
  • Recruitment and Retention Premium £3500 is available, NHS Pension, 27 days leave plus Bank Holidays, over-time paid at premium rates.

    UK driving licence is essential and a tracked vehicle (business use and commuting only) and work wear will be provided.
