Main duties of the job
As a Senior Research and Evaluation Officer , as part of a new collaborative project funded by the National Lottery Community Fund called A Mental Health Manifesto – Action for our Future , led by Single Parents Wellbeing, in partnership with Public Health Wales, Swansea University and the Mental Health Foundation.
Over a 4 year period the collaborative team will co-produce resilience tools and activities with young people and single parent families, supporting good mental health. The project is working closely with children and young people who are leading, steering, designing and implementing the change that they would like to see to systems, services and their communities. As the Lead Evaluator for this programme, you will be responsible for developing and delivering an embedded, proportionate evaluation using a mixed methods approach.
You will be based within the multidisciplinary Research and Evaluation Division, Public Health Wales, working alongside others evaluating a range of health interventions, and research programmes with a focus on children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing.
The successful candidate will have experience in using appropriate complex mixed methods (qualitative and quantitative) approaches in a public health-related field for evaluation design, data collection, analysis, and interpretation. You will value the co-production approach of this project and have an interest in the area of mental health and wellbeing.

You will draw on your expertise and experience to advise and support others across the Action for Our Future collaboration wanting to undertake research and evaluation activities, as to the most appropriate methods and design
You will apply your strong quantitative and qualitative skills to research and evaluate practice, working with others with specialist expertise; including use of specialist software and methodology (e.g. statistical software, data linkage, CAQDAS software).
You will identify and become skilled in new or emerging research or evaluation approaches that can be adopted within the collaborating organisations.
You will write and lead on the production of research reports, appropriately targeted at different audiences.
You will actively build partnerships and collaborative relations with local and national stakeholders and organisations, including academic institutes to further research and evaluation.
You will work independently to project manage research or evaluation of key programmes contributing to the delivery of the PHW Research and Evaluation Strategy and the Action for Our Future project; working collaboratively with senior colleagues from across the organisation
You will foster and sustain a creative and supportive working environment based upon an ethos of respect and rigorous scientific enquiry
You will drive your own performance to ensure delivery against key projects and objectives.
