Working under the supervision of Registered Nurses andNursing Associates and in accordance with practice guidelines and protocols.The Healthcare Assistant (HCA) will assist the clinical team in theprovision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care across our patients within the Wakefield area.

Main duties of the job

Phlebotomy

New patient health checks,annual health checks and NHS health checks including documenting medical,psychological and social problems and escalating concerns from new patienthealth checks to registered nursing/medical colleagues as appropriate

Act as a chaperone whenrequired

Measuring & recordingheight, weight and BMI, temperature, blood glucose and blood pressure

Understanding normalparameters and when to refer to GPs/Nursing team for further management

HBPM/ABPM fitting

Processing and management oflaboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses

Surgery equipmentre-stocking and stock rotation

Daily stock checking andre-stocking of consulting rooms

Preparing and maintainingenvironments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions

Assisting in the assessmentand surveillance of patients health and well-being

Undertaking specificclinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taughtspecifically in relation to that individual

Helping to raise awarenessof health and well-being and how it can be promoted

Monitoring practicefacilities and equipment in relation to infection control, ensuring thatprovision of cleansing and decontamination equipment is sufficient to ensure agood clinical working environment. Lack of facilities to be escalated asappropriate

Safe management of sharpsprocedures including training, use, storage and disposal

Using appropriate infectioncontrol procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy, clean and sterile, andsafe way, free from hazards. Initiation of remedial or corrective action whereneeded or escalation to responsible management

Actively identifying,reporting, and correction of health and safety hazards and infection hazardsimmediately when recognised

Undertaking annual infectioncontrol training as per practice policy

Waste management includingcollection, handling, segregation, container management, ordering storage andcollection
