The Supportability Engineer role is based within our Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) Function, as part of Submarine Support Engineering business area in Naval Nuclear Devonport. The aim is to reduce the Through Life Costs by optimising the support system required for products, through influencing their design for supportability and determining the optimum support requirements.

The role

The difference our new Engineer will make
As a Supportability Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will be significant in supporting our nuclear deterrent whilst working within our Engineering Services Directorate. This is a centre of excellence for our professional engineering capability, supporting naval programmes while proactively improving our capabilities. You’ll be applying your engineering knowledge to support technical outputs and solutions in order to enable submarine availability and fit for purpose nuclear licenced infrastructure.

This role offers plenty of development opportunities and variety. Day to day you could be providing engineering support and thought to in service submarines such as Trafalgar, Astute and Vanguard whilst at sea, enabling an optimised maintenance package and through life cost. You could also be involved with the concept and build element through the design, down selection and build process, to provide support to the MoD and define the preferred support solution for the future SSBN (Dreadnought) and SSNR Class submarines.

Essential experience
* Qualified to minimum of HNC in a STEM discipline (e.g. Mechanical, Electrical, System, Data or Maths). Experience in lieu of formal education would be considered
* Working towards professional registration of an accredited STEM body such as IMechE, IMarEST or IET
* You will need to satisfy security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving ‘Security Check’ (SC) clearance.
