Job Title: Homeless Assessment Officer
Contract: Temp 3 months ongoing
Hours: 37
Location: Cardiff
DBS: Basic

Purpose of the Role
I am representing a client based in Cardiff, who are looking for someone to undertake homeless decisions in accordance with the Councils legal homeless duties. You will be expected to ensure decisions are undertaken in a methodical way, recording information accurately and making timely decisions. Additionally, you will be providing notifications of decision to clients and dealing with enquiries with high quality customer service.
Main Responsibilities

  • To assist in the delivery of a comprehensive legal homeless decision-making service. To make high quality decisions, in a timely manner supported by clear and informative decision letters
  • Undertaking in-depth investigations to verify homeless applications
  • Providing housing advice and information with the emphasis on preventing homelessness as a key objective
  • To undertake an in-depth assessment of support needs for clients presenting to the service aiming to understand the root cause of their housing issue and ensure appropriate support is provided
  • To work in partnership with clients to provide effective and creative housing solutions by evaluating their housing situation and support needs
  • To ensure excellent customer service is achieved to ensure clients have a supported journey through the service
  • To apply the ethos of a psychologically informed environment together with an understanding of the effects of adverse childhood experiences on a client
  • To ensure service provided meets the objectives, targets and quality standards achieving high levels of customer service and satisfaction complying with Council’s Policies and Procedures
  • To ensure that the principles of the General Data Protection Regulations 2018 are adhered to

Requirements

  • Good knowledge of housing and homelessness legislation, including the Housing Act 1996 (as amended by the Homelessness Act 2002), Localism Act 2011, Welfare Reform, Safeguarding and the Children’s Act and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017
  • Experience of carrying out frontline Housing Options work; including interviewing those in housing need, carrying out prevention work to find the best housing solutions, and investigating and making decisions on homeless applications in accordance with the relevant legislation
  • Chartered Institute of Housing Level 3 Diploma in Housing Practice or equivalent
  • Good knowledge of Landlord & Tenant Law
  • Basic Welfare Benefits knowledge
