We are seeking an enthusiastic and energetic person tosupport the Fundraising and Communications Manager and help developfundraising, communications and marketing for the Mildmay Mission HospitalCharity. This is a great opportunity to take ownership of a new role and helpto shape a new era for Mildmay.

Main duties of the job

The primary aims of this role are to:

Support the Fundraising and CommunicationsManager.

Maximise charitable income for the charity.

Ensure that all the charitys core messages are communicated across the full range ofrelevant media and are timely, persuasive and engaging.

Help to developand expand the work and impact of Fundraising and Communications.

Maintain thefundraising database and associated admin, including managing donations.

About us

Mildmay Hospital was founded in the 1860s as a Christian charitablehospital, serving the poorest communities in the East End of London.

For over thirty years, we have been at the forefront of HIV carefor patients across the UK. In addition, we provide medical care for people whoare homeless in the capital. Internationally, Mildmay has worked in severalcountries worldwide, originally in the late 1800s as Medical Missionaries andmore recently to support the education of clinical professionals and thedevelopment of healthcare systems. Thiswork is currently primarily focused on Africa.

We are supported by donations from individuals, charitable trusts, foundations, and business to help our facilities and services.

Overall Responsibilities

The Fundraising and Communications Officer will be the first point of contact for theFundraising and Communications Team.

Fundraising includes individual giving, charitable trustsand foundations, various other constituents churches and Livery Companies),corporate fundraising and sponsorship, events, legacies, supporter care anddonor stewardship.

Communications include drafting and editing mediareleases, online communications, print publications – both internal andexternal, proposals and reports, face-to-face engagements, and so on.

Administration and support

Work with and support the Fundraising andCommunications Manager to ensure tasks are correctly prioritised, and deadlinesare met.

Provide support in a wide range ofadministrative tasks, including dealing with enquires (postal, telephone,email, social media), opening and sorting mail, and managing donations fromindividuals, trusts and organisations.

Compile monthly reports of fundraising activity.

Explore new event opportunities and organiseevents such as the annual Red Run for World AIDS Day, Christmas Carol Service,and The London Walk (for homelessness).

Liaise with the Volunteering Manager, arrangingwork for volunteers and supervising and supporting them as required.

Database and donation processing

Process one-off and regular donations (daily,weekly and monthly) from both online and offline sources ensuring proceduresare followed, information is recorded correctly onto the database, andsupporters are thanked appropriately

Ensure the database is accurate and up to dateby recording changes, including mailing preferences, address details andfinancial information

Support the Fundraising and CommunicationsManager in carrying out data selections for internal and external campaigns,recording contact histories, campaign links and source codes

Produce and update mailing lists and record bulkcommunications e-newsletters and fundraising appeals) on the database

record grants application information anddonations from charitable trusts, churches, and similar organisations

Finance (example activities)

Complete a monthly fundraising and communicationsreconciliation report for the Chief Executive and Board of Trustees.

any additional related activities, fromreconciling donation information from our finance partners to counting cashfrom donation boxes.

Supporter care/stewardship (example activities)

Thank individual supporters and organisationssuch as charitable trusts and churches promptly and courteously and recordthese communications on the database.

Work to build relationships with donors byproviding exemplary standards of customer care and developing engagingcommunications.

Develop and maintain exemplary relationshipswith all our stakeholders, internal and external, including our staff and ourTrustees, Patrons, supporters and charitable partners.

Develop and maintain exemplary engagements withour stakeholders, cultivating relationships with all our constituents to, forexample, increase the level of donations.

Research and develop a potential pool of MajorDonors for cultivation.

Communications

Help develop and implement communications strategies.

Play a key part in identifying opportunities andimplementing activities to support them

Provide administrative support to the managementand other teams, including maintaining appointments and calendar, preparing articles, reports and presentation, monitoring media exposure,facilitating effective in-house communicationsdrafting and editing fundraising andcommunications copy grant proposals, publications, press releases,social media posts).

Assist in executing social media strategies andmaintaining web content.
