What you’ll do:
Hopkinson House Hostel provides 24-hour accommodation-based support for 63 individuals who have experienced multiple disadvantages, including rough-sleeping. homelessness as well as individuals who have been diagnosed with severe and enduring mental health conditions who are under the Care Programme Approach (CPA).
Many residents have experienced trauma and struggle with mental health problems and can find forming relationships and trusting those in authority difficult as a result. Hopkinson House staff focus on building meaningful relationships with residents, to support them to engage with other services, and move on to more independent accommodation in the future.
Hopkinson House implements and promotes the Psychologically Informed Environment (PIE) model. This is an approach to supporting people out of homelessness, those who have experienced complex trauma, or are diagnosed with a personality disorder, by focusing on building relationships.
The hostel aims to work in a trauma-informed way and considers psychological models and theories both in terms of how to support residents, and in the day-to-day running of the hostel. It also considers the psychological needs of staff, for example, developing skills and knowledge and regularly reflecting on the work.
Hopkinson House has an in-house Clinical Psychologist who offers one-to-one support to residents, runs reflective practice and training for staff, offers debriefs after difficult incidents, supports the management team to work in a psychologically informed way.
In addition to the vital work undertaken by the team, residents are supported by a various specialist, including the in-house clinical psychologist, art therapist, and specialist substance misuse worker the service workers with various agencies such as community mental health teams, substance misuse teams, specialist outreach teams and homeless GP surgeries.
As the part time night support worker team your responsibilities are to ensure the Health and Safety of customers and the building throughout the night. Reporting any repairs and dealing with and responding to Anti-Social Behaviour, any incidents or emergencies that may arise.

Building supportive, trusting relationships with customers, local residents and external partners, creating a positive atmosphere
Conducting regular patrols of the building
Respond to and deal with ASB complaints from local residents with the Night Security team
Adhering to lone working protocols and maintaining high levels of awareness in relation to the health and safety of yourself and colleagues
Ensuring Look Ahead Health and Safety policies and local protocols are adhered to at all times e.g. fire safety plans, risk assessments, fire alarm checks, Fire Evacuations, Fire Exit remain clear etc.
Being responsible for the handover of key information between shifts verbally and written
Undertaking any other duties consistent with the grade and nature of the post as assigned by the Team Leader/Manager
Excellent IT and Literacy Skills
