Hastings Direct is a personal lines insurance business with over 3m customers across Car, Van, Bike and Home. The business has enjoyed 10 years of rapid growth in pursuit of our mission to become the UK’s Best and Biggest Digital Insurer.
We’re flexible on location, this can be based at home or either our Bexhill, Leicester or London Cannon Street offices.
Role Purpose:
Cross-sales to existing customers has become a strategic focus as the business grows, and the Multi Car product is a key component of this. Multi Car allows customers to insure multiple vehicles with Hastings Direct, benefitting from discounts against Single Car prices and efficient policy administration. Launching in 2022 the product has grown rapidly and receives a high degree of focus from the Executive and Investors.
We are looking for an owner for the product who can drive the next phase of growth and profitability for Multi Car at Hastings. This is a true General Manager role, accountable for all aspects of Multi Car strategy, product development, trading, and customer outcomes.
How you will make a difference:
- Provide strategic leadership, addressing key questions around how to utilise Multi Car alongside Hastings Single Car business most effectively, in addition to inputting into wider cross-sales strategy.
- Develop the features of both the insurance product and service proposition in line with customer demand and business benefit.
- Own trading for Multicar with accountability for all delivering volume, income and cost metrics in-line with Budget targets.
- Ensuring that Multi Car delivers good outcomes for customers and that these can be robustly. evidenced in-line with Hastings’ wider governance frameworks.
- Directly lead a team within Hastings’ Commercial function, with the ability to support, develop and retain talent
- Provide leadership to a wider virtual team to deliver on our ambitions for Multi Car. Key stakeholders across the business include Digital, Marketing, Retail Pricing, Underwriting, Customer Services, Claims and Technology.
Skills Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- Have a proven ability to define, win support for and deliver strategy within a corporate or start-up environment
- Be comfortable building relationships and influence at an Executive level
- Have an understanding of – and proven ability to collaborate with – the functions that are vital for success as a digital insurer: Digital, Marketing, Retail Pricing, Underwriting, Customer Services, Claims and Technology
- Be able to build and lead a high-performing team as line manager
- Have a track record of delivering through virtual teams
Desirable
- A deep understanding of the economic drivers of UK personal lines insurers, including both the retail and insurance aspects of the business.
- Experience of Multi Car propositions and / or other cross-sales activity within the insurance space
- Experience of working within the FCA’s Senior Managers Certification Regime (SMCR)
