The department�s work is often national news and we are recruiting for one Social Media Officer to be part of our supportive and high-performing digital communications team. We work closely and collaboratively with the rest of the communications directorate to find the best ways to inform the public about the work of the department and the support and services we provide. We are looking for someone who has good judgement, a strong understanding of social media content and an ability to work creatively. As part of the team, you will have the opportunity to support national announcements and collaborate with colleagues within our video and design teams.

Job description

The successful candidate will support the Department for Work and Pensions in touching the lives of millions of people each day � whether that is helping jobseekers find a secure future through work in the drive to full employment, offering financial support through benefits, or supporting older workers and pensioners.

We are looking for someone who has good judgement, a strong understanding of social media content and an ability to work creatively. Within this role, you will have the opportunity to support national announcements and collaborate with colleagues within our video and design teams.

You will be joining a team of six in the social media team, reporting to the Social Media Manager and occasionally the Senior Social Media Manager. We are a supportive and friendly team who welcome innovation and originality � if this is you we would really like to hear from you.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Presenting digital updates during daily press meetings on a rota basis.
  • Drafting and publishing social media content across DWP social media channels.
  • Working with teams across the department to produce the weekly social media campaign schedule.
  • Reviewing and publishing press releases on GOV.UK.
  • Supporting colleagues to produce social media plans.
  • Evaluating social media performance using channel analytics.

    Candidates for this role must be able to demonstrate they can meet the following essential criteria:�

    1.� Have a keen interest in the evolving social and digital media landscapes and how different channels are used by various target audiences.� An ability and� enthusiasm in creating engaging social media content.

    2. Have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the confidence to present, report and explain plans accurately in formal and informal settings.

    3. Be able to demonstrate teamwork when creating content for digital channels.

    4. Have an understanding or interest in analysing and evaluating the performance of social media content, learning from past performance.

    5. Be capable of managing� multiple, concurrent projects, estimating and allocating time effectively, and meeting tight deadlines.

    6. Be willing to assist team members with duties such as the creation of graphics or video,� as well as any other creative content for the department’s needs.

    7.� An understanding of how to optimise messaging for a range of audiences and online channels.�
