Job summary

The postholder will work as a member of the CKMP Health Care Team expected to undertake specified activities to meet the needs of patients under direct/indirect supervision of other clinicians on duty.

  • Main duties of the job

  • Provide nursing care in a variety of settings by holistic assessment, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care
  • Provide information, advice and support to patients face to face and via the telephone
  • Assess, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate treatment programmes that promote health and well-being
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual treatment plans for patients with a known long-term condition and who may have complex needs
  • Work with other health care professionals to diagnose, monitor, manage and treat long-term conditions, including non-drug-based treatment methods using a management plan, and in line with national and local policies and practice needs
  • Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care

    Job description

    Job responsibilities

  • To provide a phlebotomy service (blood taking) (by direct clinical referral or practice invitation)
  • To ensure test samples are appropriately labelled and packaged for transportation to the laboratory
  • To liaise with laboratory staff if required
  • To carry out urinalysis on urine samples as requested by the clinicians, and process all samples (including urine, stool, swabs) that need to be sent to the laboratory
  • To be competent on the EMIS computer system and make an accurate, factual entry of patient data in the patient record
  • To be competent on the pathology ICE computer system and be able to request samples
  • To maintain a safe working environment including safe disposal of sharps
  • To communicate effectively with patients, carers, team members and all relevant agencies
  • To act as a chaperone to other clinicians when requested
  • To assist clinicians with coil insertions and minor surgery
  • To manage daily workload
  • To identify vulnerable patients and report to senior treatment room nurse or lead nurse/assistant lead nurse
