Following successful rotation and completion of competencies the department aims to support a timely progression from band 4 to band 5.

Main duties of the job

You should be positive about the extended role of the pharmacy technician and developing themselves and the work of our team to support patient care. Support and training will be provided to ensure that you have the skills and knowledge to be effective in the role and this will include the opportunity to undertake management medicines training and an accuracy checking qualification.The department provides a seven day service and the successful candidate will be required to work weekends and bank holidays on a rotational basis. You will be required to work at both sites of the Trust – Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley and South Ribble District General Hospital.

Depending on bed capacity within the hospital, there are occasions where the volume of work requires flexibility from the team on duty to stay late to ensure patient care is not compromised. In these instances, staff are reimbursed with either additional pay or lieu time.

Training, development and competency assessment; maintaining quality and standards by contributing to the development and implementation of new services, processes and procedures to deliver services in line with Professional, Local and National directives.

Accuracy checking of dispensed medications on completion of National Diploma in Accuracy Checking

  • NVQ Level 3 Pharmacy Services with underpinning knowledge provided by the BTEC Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences or Other recognised Pharmacy Technician Qualification meeting requirements for registration with GPhC
  • Registration with GPhC and evidence of CPD
  • Desirable

  • APTUK Member
  • Knowledge & Experience

    Essential

  • Knowledge of all areas of Pharmacy Services.
  • Understanding of current pharmacy and NHS issues
  • Knowledge of medicines legislation and clinical governance.
  • Working within GDP guidelines
